HEY, PUNK!!! GET OUT OF THE ROAD!!!
YOU'RE BLOCKIN' TRAFFIC!!!!
... Oh, wait, it's just Asgore's kid.Undyne shouting at Kris
Undyne, a returning character from Undertale, is a secondary character in Deltarune. She is the Chief Of Police for Hometown.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Undyne is an anthropomorphic thin, blue-skinned, fish-like monster with a long, red ponytail, gill-like appendages on the sides of her head, and jagged yellow teeth. She wears a navy blue police uniform, complete with navy blue tints. Unlike her counterpart in Undertale, who wears a black eyepatch over her left eye, Chief Undyne appears to have both eyes fully intact.
In the Dark World, her police uniform turns into battle armor. She has knight gloves and uses spears, much like her Undertale counterpart, in battle. Her skin takes on a bright cyan appearance.
Personality[]
Undyne is hot-blooded and enthusiastic, and shows passion in everything she does, including things she does badly, such as singing. Her passionate nature leads her to overreact to minor incidents and she becomes easily bored with the low level of crime in Hometown, indicating that she would prefer to have some sort of action occur during the course of her duties. She eagerly looks forward to beating up any criminals or wrongdoers, is good at sports, and plays the piano.
Main Story[]
History[]
Undyne sometimes plays piano at the local hospital. She plays well, but they ask her to leave if she starts singing.
Susie once kicked Monster Kid's ball into Undyne's police car. Undyne responded by exiting the car and trouncing the assembled children at handball.
Undyne was appointed as police chief after Asgore was removed from the position under unknown circumstances.
Chapter 1[]
Undyne is first seen waving cheerfully from a sidewalk as Toriel drives Kris to School.
After Kris returns from the Dark World, Undyne can be found standing in the street near the Hospital, where, instead of directing traffic, she has been standing in the street and yelling at everyone to get out of her way. If approached, she admits she has been feeling antsy lately because nothing ever happens in Hometown. She knows Kris as "Asgore's kid," but does not recognize Alphys's name, contrary to Undertale, where the two are dating.
If offered help from Kris, she suggests that they get someone to rob the bank "so I can suplex them," but since Hometown has no bank, she changes the request to getting someone to build a bank instead. If the Dark World is mentioned, Undyne laughs that having a Dark World at School isn't illegal and is therefore a matter for the school board. She also asks for any leads about a "purple girl" who is "wanted on several counts of Comic Mischief."
Chapter 2[]
Undyne is first seen in a traffic jam at the crossing after the Library lifting one of the cars. If spoken to from there, Undyne reveals that when she was directing traffic as normal, a small dog drove into the middle of the street and started doing donuts. This caused all cars in town to become jammed up. Undyne then adds that no one got hurt, but tells Kris to leave the scene as she has some bench-pressing to do.
After coming back to Hometown, she can be found at the police station. Talking to her from the side causes her to yell at Kris to talk to her from the front.[1] Talking to her about the Dark World causes her to break her table and launch the cell key into the cell door, causing the prisoners that were there to flee, with Undyne chasing them, but not before she gives Kris a Box of Heart Candy to deliver to Alphys. According to Alphys, the two met in an incident where she crashed her bike, and she describes the police as "eye candy"; Undyne also sent a "get well soon" card addressed to Alphys's bike.
During the final cutscene, Toriel is shown calling a police officer, probably either Undyne or Napstablook, about her car's tires being slashed.
Chapter 3[]
Undyne as she appears in the Dark World, during her encounter with The Roaring Knight
When Ant Tenna gets taken out by the Knight, the three heroes are forced to battle it in order to protect Toriel from being abducted by the being. At the end of the battle, whether they are defeated immediately or taken by surprise at the end, the Knight starts to abduct Kris' sleeping mother. But before it can fully acquire her, spears are summoned as Susie grabs onto its leg. Undyne, assumedly having arrived in the TV WORLD after its formation, attempts to apprehend the Knight, only for it to effortlessly scoop her up.
Susie and Kris chase after it, leaving the recovering Ralsei behind. They exit out of the still existing Dark World and follow it right to the Shelter. They are too late to stop the Knight from hunkering down in the mysterious compound, taking the completely confused police officer with it.
Trivia[]
- In a reference to Undyne's oft-repeated battle cry in Undertale, the caution tape blocking the road to the left of Hometown's Police Station reads "NGAHHHHH!!!" She also calls Kris "you punk," using the phrase in the same manner as her counterpart did.
- Talking to her from behind on the police station in Chapter 2 will have her yelling at Kris to talk to her from the front.
- Undyne's line "Nothing to report, huh? At times like this... Punks like you should be home playing video games." is a reference to a line said by Captain Strong in EarthBound, which goes "At times like this, kids like you should be playing Nintendo games."
- This was referenced previously in Undertale, by Asgore when talking to him at the end of the True Pacifist or Neutral Route, and by Sans when fighting him in the Genocide Route.
