Titan Spawns as seen in the lights-off sections before meeting Gerson and behind the Donation Fountain

Spawns are a pair of mini bosses found in Dark Sanctuary. They are created by the darkness that appears when the Titan is created. Two are fought as an encounter shortly before the Titan itself. They are also the enemies that attack you in some lights-off sections, such as before you meet Old Man Gerson, and behind the Donation Fountain.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Spawns resemble large, black human fetuses with white outlines and eyes.

When hurt the Spawn's form flickers, leaving some static appearance into their form for a little moment, this also resembles the Roaring Knight and the Titan appearances when attacked.

Attacks[]

  • Smaller Spawn bullets will move towards the SOUL.

Strategy[]

While they cannot be spared, to purify them, you’ll need to defend, and destroy the Titan Spawns’ bullets with the SOULs light. TP gain is lowered, so if any tension items are on hand, it is recommended they are used.

Trivia[]

  • Spawns, along with the Titan and the Roaring Knight, cannot be spared.
  • Spawns are one of the only enemies to be children/offspring of another enemy(?)
    • They resemble real animal/human fetuses in the womb.
    • The only other enemies with this quality is Lancer, being the child/offspring of the King.
  • Unlike other enemies in the Dark World, the Titan Spawns may be killed normally. They will not run from the battle when their life reaches a critical level.
  • Spawns are the few enemies up to Chapter 4 that can be killed to become stronger without having to freeze them.
  • The fetus may be a reference to the Earthbound character Giygas. This is due to how similar Giyagas looks to a fetus, and the iconography that Shigesato Itoi claimed served as inspiration for the character.
  • It is uncertain if Spawns can grow into Titans, as a Titan seems to spawn very quickly when summoned by the Roaring Knight. They may be completely different to a Titan, as we don't know how a Titan's "biology" would work.
  • It's possible that the "Purified" text and counter gained upon using "Unleash" on the Titan Spawns are refrences to OFF, one of the many inspirations for Undertale and Deltarune.
    • This might also be the reasoning their fetus-like appearance, as some of OFF's many enemies are The Secretaries, which share a similar look with Titan Spawns.
  • If you use "Unleash" on one spawn and kill the other one, Kris's stats will say "purified:2" despite killing one of them
