Shadowguy[1] is a Darkner enemy set that appears in Chapter 3. They are based on gangsters and the noir genre.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Shadowguy's appearance is an entirely black silhouette of a broad-shouldered human mobster, donning a fedora and trenchcoat, though they tend to wear white hats or white socks with small red stripes prior to sparing conditions being met when performing the Sharpshoot action.
Shadowguys are unable to speak and only seem to be able to vocalize short saxophone samples, as well as screams.
Under the hat, most Shadowguys are revealed to have rabbit-like ears. Some, however, have cat ears or do not have animal ears.
In Battle[]
Stats[]
Attacks (Regular)[]
- Shadowguy pulls out a saxophone and plays a wave of quickly moving notes at the player.
- Shadowguy pulls out a tommy gun and fires streams of long bullets, pausing twice before reloading.
Attacks (Chapter 3 Rouxls Kaard Miniboss)[]
- In phase 1, Shadowguy shoots small planes towards the player from his tommy gun with the text "rouxlsrules" on them.
- In phase 1, Shadowguy shoots small helicopters at the top of the box from his tommy gun, which scatter bombs.
- In phase 2, Shadowguy throws balls of yarn at the player in an arc, similar to Tasque's yarn attack.
Strategy[]
- To spare them, you can use the Sharpshoot ACT, which requires all party members. All party members put on gangster attire for the turn, and summon red crosshairs that must be guided to and held over Shadowguy's socks or hat until they are knocked off, increasing mercy by up to 100%.
- You can also use this act to gain mercy on other enemies, which is usually faster than going through their own ACTs.
- Alternatively, you can use the Boogie ACT to increase their Mercy without much effort, though it is most of the time, worse than Sharpshoot.
- During the Rouxls Kaard miniboss, you must use the Lancer button to gain mercy.

Trivia[]
- Shadowguy is the first enemy revealed for Chapter 3, first shown without a name in an update on Chapters 3-5's development. Footage of a battle featuring two of them was presented on a specific page linked to the Spamton Sweepstakes event.
- It can be inferred that the original name of the enemy was "Shadowman" as a result.
- The current name and Check information of Shadowguy was revealed within the localization section of the Summer 2024 Newsletter.
- The Shadowguy's socks needing to be removed for spare conditions to be met may be a reference to the term "knock your socks off," meaning to amaze or impress someone.
- The pyramid of stacked Shadowguys in the TV World office room may be a reference to the Balancing Sasuke meme, specifically the variant where numerous Sasuke figurines are balanced on each other to form a pyramid.
- Shadowguy bears a striking resemblance to Daisuke Jigen, the deuteragonist in the Lupin the 3rd franchise by manga artist Monkey Punch.
- It is also possible that the Shadowguys resemble Jigen as their home Dark World is based on television, of which Lupin the 3rd has amassed many animated series and specials.
- Shadowguy's appearance may also be inspired by Mr. Shadow, the main antagonist of the Korean animated film Yobi, the Five Tailed Fox (2007).
- In phase 2 of the Rouxls Kaard chapter 3 miniboss, 2 Shadowguys are shown to have cat-like ears, instead of the rabbit-like ones.
- The Sharpshoot ACT shows Susie and Ralsei also shooting human souls, instead of monster ones.
- Shadowguy has the most number of requirements for recruiting so far, being at 25.
- In Battle, using Check from Act on a Shadowguy will show Shadowguy's stats with music notation; AT (Attack) will show a Sharp (♯) and DF (Defense) will show a Flat (♭). This could be a pun on sharp having two definitions, one of them being relevant to attack.
