He he he... Looks like fighting wasn't in the cards for us.
Pippins
Pippins are diamond-shaped Darkners that are based on dice.[1] Their name was not mentioned in-game before Chapter 3, but is found in the game data.[2]
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Pippins is a stout Darkner with a hexagonal head. They have two short black legs, a red diamond body, and a black tuxedo with a red tie.
Personality[]
Pippinses appear to have a clear love for gambling and not playing fair, as they express this throughout the TV World. A Pippins in the S-Rank Gaming room of the Green Room asks Kris if they enjoy gambling, and will be disappointed if they answer with no, and another scams you to pay 500 points for them to "unlock" the door to the secret Physical Challenge.
Main Story[]
Chapter One[]
They appear in the crowd that overthrows the King if the party did not defeat any enemies violently.
Chapter Two[]
In Chapter 2, one of them appears in the Party Dojo in Castle Town and remarks that "fighting wasn't in the cards for [them]," but they indirectly mention how their friends may not only fight the party, but are stronger than Pippins. After recruiting Werewerewire, Werewerewire replaces the Pippins in the dojo.
Chapter Three[]
Pippinses can be found in many locations throughout the Chapter. One will be to the right of the stage before you partake in Tenna's gameshow, telling informing you that the TV World does not take Dark Dollars, but instead points. They however, will exchange 250 of your Dark Dollars for a TV Dinner.
Pippinses can also be found as NPCs during the Memory Boards of Tenna's game show, as well as combatible enemies. Talking to them will give you hints on how to progress.
A Pippins can be seen in the Green Room playing a game with Elnina until she starts crying, prompting them to run off.
Another Pippins can be seen in the S-Rank changing room, who will charge you one point for a tip about Rude Buster. Whether you pay or not, they'll tell you.
Blocking the door to the secret Physical Challenge, a Pippins in sunglasses will charge you 500 points for entry.
Another Pippins will appear next to a Zapper in the area below the Green Room. The Zapper expresses concern over Pippins turning to stone, but the Pippins claims they'll be fine, as they "fit right in".
Pippinses will be among the crowd of Darkners Tenna scolds for not finding the Lightners, and are docked their pay until they’re found.
Strategy[]
To spare Pippins, there is a variety of methods. You can bribe them points to instantly raise their MERCY to 100%. You can also use the ACT "Cheat" to have Susie draw fours on all the Pippinses in the fight, causing them to become TIRED. This will alow them to be Pacified by Ralsei. If a Shadowguy is in the fight, you can use the Sharpshoot act to target the Pippinses as well to raise their MERCY in the same manner as the Shadowguy, but MERCY gain on the Pippins like this, compared to shooting the Shadowguy, is halved.
Trivia[]
- "Pippins" may be a play on "pip," the markings on a dice
- Pippins, as of now, is the only Darkner apart from Ralsei to be be capable of existing in multiple Dark Worlds (besides Castle Town) without petrifying.
- One of the Pippinses implies that it's because they fit in with the world.
- The hex code for the red color in their sprite is #ed1c24, and the hex code for their blue is #0000ff
- In the 6th Anniversary stream, Toby Fox mentioned that these characters are dice enemies. He had made attack patterns for them, but the patterns weren't fun so he scrapped them.[1]
