Mike is an in universe fictional character first mentioned briefly by Spamton in Chapter 2, then continuously by Tenna in Chapter 3, before finally appearing as a trio in Chapter 4. Mike is not one single person, but rather a Pippins, Shadowguy, and Zapper taking turns acting out the part of Mike. It is implied that a large photorealistic microphone could be the "real" Mike upon reaching the end of Mike's room in Castle Town.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

All three share a color scheme that is mainly red, white, and grey, while sporting big red bow ties. The first Mike a round head resembling the top of a microphone, with a big grin. He has a round black suited body, two white gloves, and a microphone in one hand. The second Mike is a dark cat-like figure with microphones for hands, pink and yellow glasses (which interestingly resemble those of Spamton, but with the colors switched), and a white belly. The third Mike is a Zapper dressed up in a grey suit and collar, red gloves, and a cowboy hat. However, it is also implied that Mike actually takes the appearance of a large microphone that appears in his room.

Outside of their Mike costumes, they look the same as their usual counterparts, except for the Pippins, whose red elements are now green.

Main Story[]

Chapter Two[]

Mike does not make an appearance in any capacity during Chapter 2, though it is the first Chapter in which he is mentioned, specifically by Spamton during two of his lines in his shop. He is also mentioned on one of the webpages for the Spamton Sweepstakes, in a hidden piece of text.

Chapter Three[]

Like in Chapter 2, Mike does not make an actual appearance. That being said, the constant mentioning of and orders for him by Tenna indicate that he plays a consistent role in managing his game show throughout the entirety of the Chapter. Tenna asks Mike to control the lights set up the boards and much more. Mike seems to also be able to control when enemies spawn in the board or quiz vortexes. Though, near the end of the Chapter, in the wake of Tenna's employees all settling on departing from him, Mike also chooses to follow suit. It is possible Mike can talk to Tenna through his antennas, as when he quits it seems like Mike is talking to him.

Chapter Four[]

In the green room area of Castle Town, a door labeled Mike's Room appears. It can be unlocked with the code 6453. Entering the room makes the first Mike question why Kris is in their space, which then prompts a battle. During the battle, the three Mikes reveal themselves, then try to get rid of Kris for knowing the secret that there are three of them. After the battle, they talk about how they've been taking turns being Mike, and that they’ve been struggling to figure out who the real Mike is. They ask the party desperately who Mike is, to no avail. If Tenna was given to the Nobody in Napstablook’s house, and this was done before entering the church fountains, Susie will tell the Mikes that Tenna is no longer around, so they leave, no longer forced to be Mike anymore. Otherwise, Small Mike will simply say “As long as someone’s Mike it’ll work out.”

Returning to Mike's Room allows playing one of three mini games corresponding to each Mike. These are Battat, Jongler, and Pluey. On the Switch 2, to make use of the different hardware, the lineup of mini games is changed to Pluey, Air Waves and Main Performance.

Mini games[]

Battat[]

in this game you control a spaceship and try to manage energy while picking up cats for fuel and points, whilst avoiding the rocks.

Jongler[]

This is a basketball type of minigame where you use the volume of your microphone depending on your device to make the hoop expand and affect gravity while throwing cats into the hoop

Pluey[]

In this game you take falling cats from the sky and put them into baskets to get points. however, you must avoid the acid rain which kills you in three hits. In the Switch 2 version, you use 2 Maice instead of one

Attacks[]

Each of the characters pretending to be Mike have their own set of attacks. They are detailed below:

Small Mike[]

  • Rows of clapping microphones line the bottom of the screen. After a few seconds, these microphones will disappear, and replaced with a row microphones coming down from the top of screen, almost to the very bottom.
  • Starts mostly the same as the first attack, but clapping microphones will come from the right of the screen that increase in height as they come into view, that the player must go over or under.

Cat Mike[]

  • Small white cats will crawl from edges of the screen. If they are petted with the Maus, they will dance and disappear. Otherwise, they will gradually grow redder. If they go too long with out the Maus petting them, they'll send out a bullet, and disappear.
  • Four larger white cats appear at the corners of the screen. They function similarly to the smaller white cats, except they will fire three bullets instead of one, and will continue to fire bullets until pet.
  • Columns of small white cats in addition to clapping microphones will come from the right of the screen.

Cowboy Hat Mike[]

  • The SOUL will be put on a horizontal string, restricting movement to only left to right. Two rows of clapping microphones directly above and below the SOUL will come from the right of the screen. These will not be close enough to damage the SOUL. Next, giant white paws will come down from the top or bottom of the screen in an attempt to hit the SOUL.
  • The SOUL will be put on a horizontal string, restricting movement to only left to right. Small black paws will fall from the top of the screen.
  • Giant white cat paws will come down from the top of the screen, similar to the first attack, but two paws can appear at once.

All at once[]

  • The SOUL will be put on a horizontal string, restricting movement to only left to right. Small blue cats will appear in addition to the small white cats. These need to be picked up but into a white cat bed. They, won’t attack, and simply if left idle, but the turn won’t end until they’re all in the bed.
  • The SOUL will be put on a horizontal string, restricting movement to only left to right. The Mikes will condense into a large ball, and will come down on to the SOUL in a manner similar the giant cat paws. They must be pet 8 times with the Maus to end the turn. However, after each pet, they’ll begin coming down faster, and more rapidly. Two large white cats will also appear on the left and right, that also must be pet to avoid them from attacking.

Strategy[]

With the only method of controlling the SOUL being the players voice (unless you’re playing on console or select to use the x button) it is recommended you fight the Mikes in a quiet space, as any background noise could interfere. The normal options during battle are also disabled, leaving your only method of healing as petting Susie, Ralsei, or Kris. Note that you may only heal one per turn, as petting any of the characters progresses the fight.

Relationships[]

Tenna[]

The Mikes take care of many things for Tenna throughout Chapter 3, often being called for set changes, or to give certain things for the show. In chapter 4 The first mike (small mike) talks about how they do everything for Tenna even the shock therapy. Cat Mike seems to be then one who listens to Tenna while taking and hypothetically Big Cowboy Mike might be a sort of enforcer.

Trivia[]

  • The Mikes are among the few enemies in Deltarune whom you fight with a SOUL mode, along with Gerson and Spamton.
    • The Mikes are the first Deltarune enemies to have a brand-new SOUL mode, as Spamton and Gerson's SOUL modes are featured in Mettaton and Undyne's Undertale boss fights respectively.
    • It is also one of the only 2 instances of a boss in both UNDERTALE and Deltarune with a soul mode that is exclusive to one platform (Dual Maus on Switch 2)
  • Cowboy Hat Mike is a likely reference to a popular semi-joke theory made by the fans, “Friend Inside me”.
  • Cat Mike’s pink and yellow eyes reflect the eye coloring of Spamton and IMAGE_FRIEND, most likely referencing a common theory during the chapter 2 era that IMAGE_FRIEND is mike.
  • The Mike fight was first teased during the Spamton Sweepstakes QNA, calling them the "[Cathode]'s Crew".

Speculation[]

  • Despite not being the real Mike, it is implied there is a real Mike whose battle theme the trio use as it's implied they didn't know Spamton and yet Catswing includes both Spamton’s and the HEY EVERY !! leitmotifs.
    • Air Waves also includes Spamton’s leitmotif, as well as THE WORLD REVOLVING motif.
  • It's possible the real Mike was the one calling Spamton making him a Big Shot, it would explain why Spamton holds Mike in such high value.
  • It's also possible that like many of Spamton's other traits, Spamton's obsession with Mike is stolen from Tenna, who also constantly mentions him.
  • It's possible the real Mike is W.D. Gaster.
    • Presuming Mike was the one on the phone, it could explain the "garbage noises".
  • It's also possible the real Mike is Friend as the Mike room has many connections to cats and cats with pink and yellow eyes.
    • Cat Mike himself wears a cat costume with pink and yellow eyes.
  • The presence of Mike’s leitmotif in sneaking.ogg implies that it was originally supposed to play in Mike’s room before being scrapped.
